COWTOWN TEXAS WATER
The first time Barbara and Peggy and I sang a song together we were thrilled. We put a songlist together and got our first gig at a bar in Burleson, Texas called THE WESTERN PLACE. It was early 1979. After about a year of kicking around, taking any job we could find we landed at the WHITE ELEPHANT SALOON out at the Fort Worth STOCKYARDS. It was a cold December night. The streets were iced over and we played for the bartender and the wait staff.
Check out the Pictures on the wall at the WHITE ELEPHANT now and you will see the young TEXAS WATER. If you look at the WHITE ELEPHANT calendars there in the showcase you will see that we played there weeks at a time. It was our base for about four years. One night while we were on break, this fellow who presented himself as the STOCKYARDS historian, we knew him as Gary, took Barbara somewhere nearby and showed her what he said was an Indian burial ground. When she told me what Gary had said it pissed me off so I did what I do when I'm pissed off. I wrote a song! jmt
