TEXAS RAIN - 1975

They're stopping cars near Tyler
Just want to check your breath
They think they can prevent another death
And the Mansfield kids all lining up
Along the Retta road
Why, the Johnson county cops may never know

Two lonely men in uniform cruise Alvarado streets
They drive in separate cars their separate beats
And a skunk is eating June Bugs 'neath a light in Cedar Hill
Before day light he's sure to get his fill

CHORUS. . .Texas nights
Southern lights
I'm a Northern boy
Can't enjoy my misconceptions
I've seen the beauty of the plain
And the rain, the TEXAS RAIN

The windmill doesn't even know its shaft has been removed
Split second silhouettes define the plain
Mother Nature gives directions & I know that can't be proved
And the toads all try to cross the road in vain

CHORUS

The crawfish don't like chlorine so they shun the public pools
I suppose they all come from an older school
The locust in the pecan trees buzz out a sweet refrain
And I'm clinging to my Northern Pride in vain

CHORUS

The only fox I've seen all year lies rotting by the road
Some cosmic cowboy hit him with his car
There's no one at the post office to take my parcel post
And I'm wet as a Tarrant county bar

CHORUS

They erode my misconceptions
I've seen the beauty of the plain
And the rain, The Texas Rain. . .
